My interest in soccer kicked off in 2010. After tuning in to a breathtaking World Cup that
summer, I found myself watching an increasing number of matches as the year went on. As
my understanding of the game increased, so did my desire to play. I would go outside from
time to time and try to teach myself the basics sometimes I’d even practice juggling inside my
apartment. But after a few broken lamps and roommate complaints, it was obvious my efforts
had to be taken elsewhere. That’s when I decided to look for a local pickup soccer group.
Fortunately, I was able to join a group of guys playing in Carlsbad, California who were willing to take on a 26 year old newbie. The long and arduous search in finding that group, however, made it very apparent to me that the process needed to be simplified. There had to be an easier way to find people who shared a similar passion for the beautiful game.
For over a year, I would just chat about the idea of creating a website where people can find, join and create pickup groups. Then finally I decided to do something about it. After a grueling year of design and development, I create SoccerELF.com, a hub for people young and old and all levels of experience to find, join and create pickup soccer groups.
These days you’ll find me still playing with the same pickup group in Carlsbad, California as well as looking for new ways to improve SoccerELF.com
If you have any feedback or suggestions for the site, please let me know. I’d love to hear from you!
